First, identify the keywords you want your site to show up for. You should target the most relevant keywords related to your website, but make sure to choose keywords that are actually searched on. Use inventory.overture.com, wordtracker.com, or keyworddiscovery.com to research the best keywords for your site.

Then make sure your website has plenty of content related to your chosen keywords. You should continually add fresh, new content to your site as often as possible. A blog is a great way to do this. It can also be done with some other kind of CMS, or by simply creating new HTML pages. Be sure to include the keywords you’re trying for in the title, headings and of course within the page content itself. Be sure your site uses a text link navigation system with links to all the various pages of your site.

The final, and perhaps most difficult step in getting that top searsearch engine ranking you’re looking for is to obtain as many high-quality links to your website as possible. The search engines will determine your site’s ranking in large part by the number and quality of links to your site. A very important part of this is to be sure that the links also include keywords within the text of the link. Use different variations of your keywords in the text links to give the search engines an accurate picture of what your site is about. Be sure to continually get new links to your site. As you’re starting out, you’ll need to beg, barter, buy, or do whatever possible to get links. Once your site is more established, you’ll start to get links from all over just because you provide quality content in your industry. Be sure to optimize any new pages that are added to the site and continue to add more links to your site each month.

I have another one, but when i search it comes up perfectly, i get 3 pages of results. This site is brand new, only been up for about 3 weeks, and i can only find it, alll the way on page 3 of a search engine. I would like to bring it to page 1.
This is a very in depth question, and the best way you’re going to be able to succeed in doing this is by browsing some of the resources available on the internet. Try www.seochat.com and www.webmasterworld.com, they both have great information. You will also be able to find information on the Meta tags on those sites as well, but generally you just want to include information that is related to your site. Meta tags don’t have a great impact on search engine rankings anymore, so it isn’s as important as it used to be to get them perfect.

I want to erase things that I put into a search engine on sites like yahoo or google but everytime I go back, they keep coming up. Please help.

Go to the TOOLS menu of your Internet Explorer, and pick Internet Options.

Go to the Content section and click on the AUTO COMPLETE button and click on the CLEAR FORMS button

To a certain extant, that depends upon how competitive your keywords are. If they’re not competitive, just using the SEO packages for your blog software might be sufficient.

I’ll assume it’ll take a bit more than that, however.

There are three basic parts to SEO: the structure of your site, the content of your pages and the links coming into the site. Each of these three are important, but they’re too big a topic to address here (I’ve taught day long classes on just parts of the SEO world), so I’m going to point you to some resources.

First, you might SEOBook and SEOmoz. Both have a lot of information for free, and offer advanced info and tools for a subscription.

Then, hit the SEO forums. My two favorite are V7N and DigitalPoint.

First, make sure that you submit your website to the search engines. It takes anywhere from 2 weeks to even 6 months for websites to show up in the search engines. In some cases, a website will show up after 2 weeks of being online, only to disappear for maybe 3-6 months (which is called Google sandbox, though Yahoo to a certain extent also does)

Ranking high in the search engines, however, is a tougher ballgame. Search engines look at the following factors in ranking websites, though in varying degrees of importance:

- Age = an older site stand a higher chance of getting better rankings than newer sites because they are more established (especially if considered an authority in the field) and a lot more incoming links

- Quality and Uniqueness of the Content = sites rank well if they have content that users consider relevant and original, not rehashed or using content used by hundred other websites (e.g. articles in article submission directories)

- Keyword density = number of times the keyword appears on the site. This also includes having the keywords in important places such as the title, metatags, even H1s and H2s

- How it fares in the results = when it comes up in the search engines, are people clicking on it or not. If not, search engines consider the site to be not relevant to the keyword. Also, how long does the user stay on the site; if they hit the back button immediately, then the site may not be relevant to the search term

- Site structure = on-page factors to sitemaps

- Backlinks = who are linking to the site and what are their quality (the more authoritative the site linking to your site, the better).
